Looking for a mentor?

The Maryland Library Associaion’s Development of Emerging and Aspiring Librarians Group (DEAL) has partnered with the Special Libraries Association of Maryland and MLA’s Library Management Division (LMD) to offer “Speed Mentoring: Meet Your Professional Development ‘Match,’” at the West County Library of the Anne Arundel County Public Library System, from 5:30-8 pm on Wednesday, October 10.

How will it work, exactly?  If you’ve ever heard of the concept of “speed dating,” this program is similar, but instead of finding a prospective date, mentees will be in search of a prospective mentor to guide them in their budding career in the library and information profession.  Participants will hear a brief talk on the importance of networking, be introduced to the prospective mentors, and then, will then have a number of 3 minute discussions with various mentors.  At the end of the program, mentees will be asked to list some prospective mentors for future mentoring relationships beyond the program.

SLA-MD, DEAL, and LMD members have recruited mentors from public libraries, academic libraries, government libraries, law libraries, and even some professionals in non-traditional roles. Mentees will have a variety of mentors to choose from during this fast-paced, low-pressure, and yes, even FUN! program.

A light dinner and refreshments will be served.

MLA/SLA Members: $30
Non-Members: $40
Students: Reduced! Now only $10!
