ACRL MD Summer Program: The Best Idea I’ve Heard This Year: Improv-ing Professional Communication

Were you wowed by an idea at a conference, workshop, webinar, or other event? Come to ACRL MD’s summer program, and exercise your knowledge sharing muscles in a three-part session! Bridget Cavaiola from the Baltimore Improv Group will lead us in an active workplace communication workshop to get us idea-sharing in the morning, and you are welcome to participate at your own comfort level.

Next, we’ll facilitate a round of lighting talks, so that your colleagues can introduce what they have seen, heard, and learned in their professional development pursuits over the past year. To wrap up, this program will offer a panel discussion talking about the challenges, strategies, tools and failures involved when facilitating knowledge sharing in a variety of communities and environments.

The 2015 summer program is here! Register today!

During this year’s summer program “Have a Field Day: Engaging the Mind and Body for Library Staff and Patrons”, ACRL MD is diving into the research to investigate the benefits of physical activity on cognitive function, productivity, and overall health. Attendees will learn about how libraries can encourage physical activity for patrons and library staff when designing spaces, programs, and instruction. Come prepared for a day of active learning as we attempt to practice what we preach!

Have you worked on a project that will enhance the physical health and activity levels for your library staff or patrons? Complete the form below to volunteer for a lightning talk! We would love to hear about any efforts designed to get people out of their seats, no matter the learning environment.

Cost of program:

$40 for MLA members

$60 for non-members

$34 for students

The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on July 28th, 2015. It will take place at the Albin O. Kuhn Library & Gallery on UMBC’s campus. Attendees will be e-mailed parking permits upon request.  Breakfast and lunch will be served and vegetarian options will be available.

Up for the challenge? There are two steps:

Step 1: Submit a Proposal (Optional)

This year’s program will be an action-packed day of learning and networking as we explore the impact of physical activity on workplace health and productivity. Have you successfully implemented gamification or other active learning methods in your instruction program? Has your library put on programming or designed spaces to encourage physical health and activity? Submit a proposal for a lightning talk to tell us about your project in 5 minutes or less!

Submit a topic to the organizers by July 1st if you would like to be considered for a featured lightning talk:

Step 2: Register

After you’ve submitted your topic idea, go register for the summer program:

We look forward to sharing and learning with you on July 28th! Register soon while seats are still available!
