Taming the Copyright Hydra: How Salisbury University’s Access Services Team Put Its Heads Together
Thursday, May 9
2:00 – 3:15
In much the same way that two heads grew back each time one of the mythological Hydra’s was cut off, so too, do two copyright questions arise each time one copyright question is answered. This session will begin with a refresher on copyright, fair use fundamentals, and current copyright law related to electronic reserves and course management systems. Next, we will discuss Blackwell Library’s journey to full copyright compliance, which required integration and collaboration between faculty, the library, and Instructional Design and Delivery to confront copyright and permissions issues that extended beyond articles and chapter excerpts to streaming videos.
This program is worth 1 contact hour of continuing education.
